ISREC Tandem award

Immunotherapy in malignant pleural mesothelioma: Primary pleural cancers such as the malignant pleural mesothelioma, a lung cancer related to asbestos exposure, are cancers that develop in the chest cavity. The project led by Drs. Peng, Ochsenbein and Schmid aims to discover novel immune targets and mechanisms of resistance to immunotherapy in mesothelioma patients

Biomarkers indicate regression of liver cirrhosis

Researchers from the DBMR/BCPM (University of Bern and University Hospital of Bern) and the University of Vienna identified and validated a group of lipid biomarkers associated with regression of fibrosis that could used as non-invasive biomarkers for detecting regression of chronic liver disease.

SNSF Sinergia award for Axel Rominger, Kuangyu Shi and Quanzheng Li

Intelligent 4D ultra-high-sensitive PET Imaging for early detection of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: The project deals with the development of early detection methods for pancreatic cancer using positron emission tomography. For this purpose, appropriate radiotracers are to be used which target specific characteristics of tumor cells.

While health data sharing for research purposes is strongly supported in principle, it can be challenging to implement in practice. Little is known about the actual bottlenecks to health data sharing in Switzerland. This study aimed to assess the obstacles to Swiss health data sharing, including legal, ethical and logistical bottlenecks.

Publication in Molecular Cell: A potential milestone in cancer therapy

Prof. Mark Rubin, Dr. Anke Augspach (University of Bern, Inselspital) and Prof. Rahul Kanadia (University of Connecticut) have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against cancer. They identified a previously unknown weak point of prostate cancer cells. This could also lead to entirely new therapeutic approaches for other types of cancer.
